How to transmit an UPC-A code as an EAN-13 code by adding a leading zero? How to convert a 12 character UPC-A into an EAN-13? How to add a leading zero to an UPC-A bar code? Can UPC-A be completely shut off / disabled? The system accepts 13 digit product codes only, how to handle UPC-A codes? How to disable the UPC-A symbology on Honeywell scanners?
In order to configure the scanner to read UPC-A but transmit the data as an EAN-13 by adding a leading zero, just a single configuration bar code has to be scanned (on a factory default device). Use the configuration sheet 'Convert UPC-A to EAN13'and scan the bar code 'Transmit UPC-A as EAN13'. The same configuration bar codes can be found in the Symbologies chapter under UPC-A, in the User Guide for the applicable product, available from the Honeywell Website.
During a transition period 2009-2012 this functionality might not have been available on all devices. Customers experiencing difficulties could upgrade to the latest firmware version (firmware from 2013 or newer), or alternatively could use the data format on the 'Convert UPC-A to EAN13' programming sheet. (Make sure there are no previous data formats stored).
Customers requiring to disable UPC-A or EAN 13 can use the 'Test sheet for UPC-A and EAN13" to see the options. For scanners that do not support this, a firmware upgrade might be required, or a bug should be reported.
Not all user documentation and scanner firmware might have adapted to these 2012 changes in the global specification.
