SmartSystems Foundation gives a consistent, centralized platform so that deployed Honeywell Windows-based devices can be easily managed and monitored. Devices such as mobile computers, printers, RFID readers, and other Honeywell peripheral and network devices can be managed with this tool. Android devices require a different solution.
SmartSystems Console is a free offering. Advanced functionality is available if a SmartSystems Management license is loaded on the managed devices.
A SmartSystems Management License enables advanced configuration and reporting of device health properties which includes Ready-to-Work indicators and detailed battery/memory/storage/scanner/connectivity statistics. The license also enables automated software distribution of OS updates to a group of devices as well as running reporting services. A license is required for reporting device health as well as multi-device provisioning of newly introduced PM43/PC43/PC23 printers. This licenses enables management of peripheral PR2/PR3 printers via primary Mobile Computers. Mobile Computers require a SmartSystems 4.X reference client to be resident on the device.
The SmartSystems Foundation (SS) latest version can be found here.
The SmartSystems installation guide will provide instruction needed for a successful install. Installation guide provides a list of requirements (OS, SQL and network access ports).
Note: During the SmartSystems Foundation install, do not take the default value when creating the SQL Instance, but rather create a unique instance name for use by SmartSystems, such as 'Intermec2008', or 'Intermec2012', depending on which version of SQL Server that is installed.
SmartSystems Foundation enables the use of 'Intermec Power Tools' to connect to the device using the 'Remote Viewer Tool', among other things. It allows configuration of the unit from the console, make backup & restore, screen shots, reboots, etc.
There is not a separate user manual for SmartSystems Foundation. For detailed information on how to access and use all of the capabilities of SmartSystems Foundation, use the built-in 'Help' menu item. 'Help' is accessed via the SmartSystems Console and is on the upper tool bar typical in Windows environment applications. Search methods are also modeled after standard Windows Help utilities.
